Luke's Walking again

About a week and a half after Luke had the cast removed, he started walking but holding onto things for support. Within about two days, he finally let go and was walking by himself (this day just happened to be Mother's Day). It wasn't the prettiest walk as he held his leg out to the side and kind of had a limp, but he was walking without our help. Well right around lunch I put him in the car to go pick up Connor from Nanna and Fops' house when Luke hopped out of his car seat onto the floor board and slipped on a church bulletin. His supporting leg (the one that just came out of a cast) was his supporting leg, and he did not have enough strength in it to hold him, and he fell. He was crying and I picked him up and asked what hurt. First he told me his ankle, then he was pointing to his thigh on the same leg that had been in a cast for 6 weeks. I first thought was, "there was no way I could live another 6 weeks with him in a cast." I gave him some Ibuprofen and layed him down for a nap, cause we were having family over for Mother's Day in a few hours. When he woke he acted like nothing was hurting him, but would not walk on his leg. As the day went on, his ankle started to swell and he continued to tell me that his ankle hurt. So the next morning, I called his doctor and explained what happened. and they were able to get us in right away to re-xray his leg just to make sure his femur was not damaged and take a look at the ankle. Well, there was good news, that the femur bone had actually shown so much healing from the week before when we were in there, but his ankle had swollen tissue around it, meaning he twisted his ankle. So we were back to square one with walking, where Luke wanted to be carried everywhere. So another week and a half went by before he had the confidence to walk again. Once he figured he could walk with out it hurting, he was on the go and has been ever since! It is such a great feeling to know that he can now get around on his own! I am still very cautious of what he does, so we do not injury anything else for a LONG time. I just wish I could put him in a bubble to protect him for a while.

He still walks with his leg out to the side, but is improving each day. He has been getting a great work out for his ankle the last few days by walking in boots in the water puddles.
