This weekend I ran my first half marathon in Sugar Land thanks to the support of my sister, who ran her 5th. She asked me in November if I would be up to run with her, and I wasn't too sure. I had been running a few days out of the week just for exercise. At this time, I was only running 3-4 miles at the most and to run 13 miles seemed impossible. After a few weeks of meeting up with her after school and training with her, I decided I would give it a try. When signing up for the half marathon, they ask you to estimate how long it will take you to complete it and at that time I decided for 13 LONG miles, that I could accomplish that task in 2 1/2 hours. As we trained more and more, and did our long runs, my time kept improving. I was now running about a 9 minute mile and set my goal to complete it in under 2 hours. I can say that I did beat my goal, but not by much. I finished with a time of 1 hour 58 minutes and 45 seconds. I placed 20th out of 192 women in my age group and overall I placed 169 out of 990. So now, people ask me if I would do it again, and YES I would, but not anytime soon. I think I will stick to some 5K that are coming up and work on my speed, and then maybe in fall I will try for my second.
I will have to say, if it wasn't for NaShay, I would have never been able to do this. Training with someone that has experience helped so much and gave me the courage to do this. It is not easy to run such a long time by yourself!!!!
Congrats girl!
